“If there was anything a Radchaii considered essential for civilized life, it was tea.”
— Ann Leckie, Ancillary Justice
a two-player game about tense conversations over tea
Inspired by Ann Leckie's Imperial Radch trilogy, One Cup uses two cups of tea to create an improvisational conversation between two characters. These conversations are designed to be tense yet civilized conversations which bow to the rules of propriety, yielding honesty to decorum and covering heated emotional stakes with calm indirectness. Leading questions are used to force your conversational partner to reveal their hand, or to deftly deflect the topic. When your partner backs you into a corner you cannot talk your way out of, the choice is yours: break decorum, or give in and take a sip of tea.
Made for Takuma Okada's #jumbledupjam. This game will be updated with further examples of the various moves, as well as sample scenarios, as time permits.
